Getting IT
Today, almost every company, government, business or organization has an IT Department, or a group of people who manages computer stuff. The people behind it are the IT people, the computer people or sometimes called the geeks — experts in a technical field, particularly to do with computers. They are the people who make use of technology to make people exert less effort to finish a task.
Although I believe the use of information technology is no longer an option but a necessity, it is just here support to a solution. It acts as your back office, as a medium or as a tool to speed up a procedure, but never should it be mistaken as the solution. IT is not all that counts, without it, we can still live, not just the way we want it.
So much for the IT people and computer science guys, they do not know it all. Let us not ask them about electronics, it is entirely different.
Information Technology – the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware
Computer Science – the study of scientific and practical uses of computers
Electronics – something to do with electrons I guess, I did not bother to look it up, it’s just so dissimilar
I’ve been asked a lot of questions about computers, about its parts, about its speed, about its size and even about its color. The questions vary usually; it can be as simple as how to type “ñ”, how to disable a CAPS LOCK or even on how to open a DVD drive. Complicated questions can also differ; it can be as complex as how to send an email, how to connect to the internet or the most annoying one, is how to use a computer.
The problem sometimes with an IT guy — he is perceived to know everything about computers. When someone meets an IT guy or he sees an old friend who happens to be a computer guy, he will somehow crave to ask a question about his computer or about his slow internet connection. To make it worse, if the IT guy will reply “I don’t know”, they’ll think he is a dumb IT guy. Give us a break. An IT professional, just like a doctor, has specializations. It is impossible to know it all.
Just remember, next time an IT guy responds to your question with an “I don’t know”, it can only be one of three things – he really doesn’t know, the answer is so long and you just won’t get it or he doesn’t want to tell you. Get IT?
